At the recent EMCON manufacturing show Charlotte Fox, business innovation manager in Newcastle Hospitals’ commercial enterprise team, found many links betwee the manufacturing and engineering industry and healthcare.
Newcastle Hospitals is a hotbed for innovation and new ideas.
With around 18,000 staff and an annual expenditure of £1.3 billion, we have teams and individuals who are regularly looking at how to improve the services we provide to patients from the north east and beyond.
We have a rich history of research and innovation, working with partners from across healthcare, academia and industry.
Now in its 14th year, the EMCON event attracts businesses looking to tap into new markets and areas of work, providing a showcase for sharing capabilities and connecting people and businesses that may not normally meet.
Attending the EMCON event allowed me to connect with lots of exciting and interesting manufacturing organisations; people with the knowledge, ideas and capability to work with us on opportunities from our innovation pipeline. These opportunities range from prototype development and licensing to collaborations on funding bids to support the development of medical and non-medical devices.
In the commercial enterprise team, we support our healthcare colleagues with their innovative ideas but we also provide consultancy and expertise to help non-NHS organisations better understand how to access the NHS market, navigate the regulatory and procurement landscape and, of course, how to scale up across the healthcare sector.
We’re always on the lookout for new partners to help with solving some of our most pressing or complicated challenges, experts and expertise to help make our bright ideas a reality.
Working in closer partnership with the manufacturing and engineering industry is an opportunity to share knowledge and expertise for mutual benefit and we’re keen to expand our innovation network in these areas.
