Project
Entia has developed a home-based patient monitoring system, called Liberty, for people receiving chemotherapy treatment for cancer.
These patients are at increased risk of complications and more susceptible to infections, so need to be monitored closely.
The home monitoring system consists of a blood count analyser that enables patients to independently perform a blood test at home with just a single drop of blood. The system analyses the samples and sends the results directly to the dashboard via cloud software, enabling the patient’s doctor to monitor their condition remotely.
This blood count analyser system aims to help identify problems early, personalise treatment, and minimise trips to hospital, giving better outcomes and a more convenient experience for patients.
How we helped
We worked with Entia to help validate the blood count system. We installed the Liberty devices in a specialist lab run by the hospital’s blood sciences team in the chemotherapy unit, the Northern Centre for Cancer Care, Freeman Hospital. This allowed for the analysis of a range of bespoke samples, which matched Entia’s required disease state and specimen handling criteria. We ran multiple studies to evaluate the system in comparison to traditional laboratory-based full blood count analysers.
Outcome:
The test is now UKCA marked, approved for at-home use by chemotherapy patients for health monitoring. We continue to work with Entia to develop, validate and make improvements to the device and release the product in other territories.
