Project: The Clinical Skills Academy at Newcastle Hospitals aims to lead the design and delivery of a 21st century curriculum, to equip the healthcare workforce with the right skills, knowledge and expertise to ensure the highest standards in service delivery, provide outstanding patient care, improve health and well being, and capitalise on Newcastle Hospitals’ world class expertise and research capability.
The academy provides a regional and national offer in line with Health Education England’s aspiration that continued professional development funding is best spent within the NHS. This offer will be of the highest quality, with recognised, transportable qualifications and certificated learning outcomes.
The academy will offer courses for all disciplines including nursing, midwifery, and allied health professions.
How we helped: Working with the academy programme team, the commercial team formulated a product development cycle, commercial proformas and costing calculators to create a structure for each course being considered. This included the fundamentals of product development, as well as focusing on key marketing principles, empowering the team to make the correct choices and focus on courses with the most potential.
We supported the creation of a prospectus to showcase internal and external learning opportunities, providing oversight of the development and content of available provision.
Our input supported partnerships with other organisations, such as independent training providers and higher education institutions, to develop and maintain validation and accreditation requirements.
Outcome: The academy now has a dual core and commercial offer, in line with Trust strategy, offering a sustainable model for future reinvestment into the education and development of the health care workforce.
Income from the academy will be reinvested into further training opportunities, directly impacting on patient care and staff development.
