Innovation starts with a new idea.
It could be a new product or service; a new method for running a service; or a new model of care to support patients.
Innovation may be a ‘big bang’ idea, but it is equally as likely to be something incremental or local, which improves things for patients or staff.
Newcastle Hospitals has a rich innovation history, bringing together ideas and improvements is at the heart of continuing to provide high quality care for our patients, their carers and families and to support our workforce.
Whilst there is widespread recognition of the importance of innovation in healthcare, the term can mean different things to different people.
When supporting innovation we use the term innovation to represent:
- Invention – creating and shaping ideas, products, services or new models of care
- Adoption – implementing something of benefit that has worked elsewhere
It’s really important that we embrace both invention and adoption so that new solutions are developed to solve challenges and unmet needs and can be implemented at pace.
We work in partnership with industry and play an active role in collaborating with colleagues throughout the regional and national health and care system.
We can help colleagues to develop their solutions and roll them out for spread and adoption.
We’ve launched an innovation pathway, a process to facilitate solutions to solve problems and support areas of unmet need across the trust, focusing on four steps – include, understand, test and share.
We’d love to support your idea. Please contact us by emailing the team at [email protected].
