Newcastle Hospitals is host to one of the UK Experimental Cancer Medicine Centres facilitating early phase clinical trials and one of the five National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Patient Recruitment Centres in England.
These centres were established to:
– Increase the UK’s capacity to deliver late-phase commercial clinical research
– Facilitate commercial clinical research in the NHS
– Provide opportunities for patients to benefit from early access to innovation
Newcastle Hospitals is also part of Newcastle Health Innovation Partners, one of the eight Academic Health Science Centres in the UK.
We support a broad range of over 200 clinical trials, providing sample collection and dispatch to trial co-ordinating centres, tissue processing, biomarker assessment and curation of clinical trial bioresources.
